Marx Toys Ground Crew with Fitted Pilot Figure, Playset and Age Unknown

The Geiger Counter Guys post got me thinking about which other actual Marx made spaceman figures I have & got busy separating them out. These are intriguing --"Lot" acquisition from back in April, all from the same vendor at the same time. Described as "Marx Ground Crew Figures with Astronaut" though I am unsure what playset (Cape Canaveral?) or year of production. Very fond of them! the pilot/astronaut especially, which I suspect was a fitted piece from a rocket or space plane toy. One selling point for me was the play wear indicating the stated age of "early 60s" is likely correct.

Roosevelt Dime for scale. Ground crew are standard 50mm types, pilot smaller scale.

No clue what if any significance, other than my "Operation Moon Base" figures are also unmarked with the two holes.

Howdy.

That's cool. Very specific facial features. Any info on what sets they were part of would be welcome, help me know what to look for.

And the pilot, who looks almost Egyptian in form. Like a carved detail from a mummy's tomb. Would enjoy knowing what rocket or plane he was pegged into.

Note lower seat function details.

Huh ... artsy without being intended. Will work with this one.

Creepy ... Looking right up at us, WTF? Will work with this one too.
The Haunted Astronaut Figure ...

Single notch which looks to be a peg hole upon which the pilot was fitted. Any insights welcome! Comment below or feel welcome to email via the form at right.

Servicing LP style Checker Rockets. Note difference in upper pylon shapes. Smaller rocket likely a 60s original, larger Apollo era Moon Fever re-cast.

Triang Spacex/Golden Astronaut site's reference page for the Checker Rockets. Or at least that's what I call em, cos they all have those marvelous checkered decals. Where can I get a sheet of em????
